地震と津波New

News Page Navigation

Endo Physics New

January 2005

Exo-physics is a relatively new description of modern physics, that is the description of the physical world from the outside. Adopted early as the paradigm of mainstream science, the notion that human-beings can achieve objectivity from a position plainly inside the world-system has yet to be validated and may be one sided. Endo-physics is about investigating the world from inside — which is the actual situation of humankind with respect to the rest of nature. “A workshop to explore this paradigm, Endophysics, Time, Quantum and the Subjective, will be held in Bielefeld (Germany) in January 2005.

Researchers in physics, psychology, neuroscience, mathematics, philosophy, artificial intelligence and biology will converge across the world for an intense, cross-disciplinary exchange over some fundamental and perplexing questions. These revolve around the nature of time, interpretation of the paradoxes of quantum mechanics and the status of the first-person (or subjective) perspective. Can the adoption of an endo-physical paradigm help resolve such issues?“

The organisers think it may. The workshop is motivated by the growing feeling of many leading scholars that in order to get deeper insights into the nature of time, the quantum world and of the human psyche as well, a radically new paradigm has to be adopted.” These words are adopted from the advertisement about the interdisciplinary Endo-physics workshop in Germany http://www.sciencealert.com.au/stories/misc/impossible.htm.

Jungian’s at the Edge

November 2004

Jungian’s at the Edge; It was gratifying to see the concept of the Edge (as it was used in Arny’s 1980’s books-- chapter 8 of “Working With The Dreaming Body” and chapter 1 of “River’s Way”)“ becoming so central to the Jungian community. The September 2004 International Association of Analytical Psychology meeting was called, “On Route To and From the Edge”. See their report; http://www.iaap.org/index.html

US Elections

November 2004

The Four USA’s. In our minds, there are 4 parties in the US. 1 is conservative and red, 2 is liberal and blue. The 3rd is disinterested and does not vote. And the 4th is Mystical. The immediate future of the U.S is a matter of the 3rd, the most powerful in terms of numbers; (46% of the voting population did not vote in the last election). A deeper and more permanent democracy includes also the 4th party, the Mystics, namely those from all parties in and outside the US who are interested in helping to represent people and visions. In the US and everywhere, this group supports the rights of all parties to clarify and communicate about signals, differences and dreams.

BLACK BEAR Visitations !!!

November 16-28 2004.

Oregon Coast. BLACK BEAR Visitations !!!
Newport-Florence area; Several nights right after dark, there were big bangs around our house. Outside in the dark, we just about bumped into a fairly large (everything is relatively big at that time of night) black bear. From between 6 and 60 feet (2 and 20 meters), the bear gazed at us, and we gazed back. (This bear picture is not ours, we found it on the web) We meditated and banged our drum to keep the bear at a friendly distance, but we also feel that bear is our mother.

Meeting the Seattle Jungian Community

October 2004

Thanks to Connie Eichenlaub, Pat Warming, Kim Burg, Tamara Scarlett Lyon, Dan Baar and many others, Amy and Amy had the exciting experience of speaking for the Friends of C. G. Jung society, meeting some of the Seattle Jungian analysts and sharing ideas with the creative students of the analytical program. A+A found these meeting mutually supportive and look forward to the continued process of growing together of the many and various worldwide therapeutic and psychological communities.

Newsweek, focused upon the Mind Body Interaction

September 27 2004

We are thrilled that modern researchers realize the body is a “process” and not a “state” which are terms we have been stressing for years. Medical researchers are now stressing that the mind influences the body (health issues, immune system, insulin production etc) through relaxation techniques, colorful vegetables, hypnotic altered and trance-like states of consciousness, yoga, mindfulness, fitness exercise, friendships and connections with the divine.

We wish to encourage medical researchers to also carefully check the possible “side effects” of relaxation and marginalization of stress. Putting aside “symptoms energies and stress” can be obviously helpful, yet may possibly encourage those energies to appear in less tractable areas such as physical problems, accidents, relationship and community troubles, or simply bad moods and dreams. Personal health is not “healthy” if there is more conflict or even war. We rather suggest people using the “troublesome” energies consciously, and thereby relaxing rather than marginalizing, disguising, forgetting or otherwise neglecting these stressful energies.

Why do we suspect such secondary effects? Anecdotal evidence from many hundreds of people worldwide indicate to us that problems are not simply forgotten, but reappear at another point. Our Portland based community is in the beginning stages of creating statistical studies in this area.

Tokyo

May 2004

Though we, amy and arny, were speaking about process work with our Tokyo friends, they seemed to curve space and time transforming all that happened into a kind of Zen teaching, creating a kind of Japanese process work which is part of Asia. We were thrilled in our supervision work to encounter the beginnings of an open forum and relationship work between Korea and Japan, moving with facilitators into --and in a rare moment, through -- the essence of the history of war.

Moscow

Late April 2004

Using the Hanoi Cinema in South Moscow as a seminar venue, we explored quantum physics and the future of psychology and spirituality with many hundreds of people from everywhere in today's central Russia, Baltic states and Siberia. What a pleasure it was to discover the many different ways in which process ideas are being integrated into different aspects of Russian culture.

London

April 2004

Speaking about basic principles with the folks in London was like being in the midst of an ecstatic mind boggling trip interweaving philosophy and psychology, art and puppets. What a pleasure!!

Dublin

April 2004

Amy and Arny were witnesses to the most extraordinary experience in which process work communities from Ireland and the UK, interacted around process work, and the influence of history upon our inter-relationships. In our public seminar we explored issues around colonialism, terrorism, and around religion.

Salt Lake City Update; ILLINOIS TELLS MORMONS IT REGRETS EXPULSION

April 8th, 2004

In an article below, "Salt Lake City : Working with Mormon-Non-Mormon Tensions," we speak of a significant worldwork process in Salt Lake City Utah, 2003. When we saw the following article in the New York Times, we imagined the news might have been possibly connected with that fall, 2003 experience in Salt Lake where a small but central piece of agonizing Mormon history was processed. In any case, the news made us hopeful that understanding around religious conflicts can occur. Understanding in one place, may mean more understanding for all.

Seattle Peace March

March 20, 2004

From: Tamara Scarlett-Lyon
Subject: "peace march"?

...We went to the Seattle March and estimates of participants range from 5000-15,000 (i am guessing 8-10,000). The crowd seemed to me to be more diverse this year but that's just my sense of it. (also seemed to be more young people this time which I liked seeing). The most articulate and thoughtful speakers were various vets who expressed a pretty deep understanding of compassion and complexity of issues. My son (14) was a "peacekeeper" for the 1st time (to fulfill community service requirements for his school) and did some training prior to the event and i was happy to see arny's info on Rank and Privilege included in his training material.

My husband was also a "peacekeeper" and ended up in the middle of a hotspot between a neo-Nazi group that was quietly protesting at the edge of the event and "peaceful" protesters who began loudly and hatefully verbally abusing the neo-Nazi's... pretty intense but gradually the atmosphere cooled off with no physical violence other than "peace" people throwing bagels at the neo-nazis...

As usual I found myself walking along with mixed feelings- wanting to be counted as one who is dissatisfied w/ US policy and leadership (and wishing more people were there with us), but also feeling very uneasy with the signs and name-calling that were mean-spirited and blaming. But touched by all the range of people who were there and curious about each person's
story... also wondering what would happen if people with different views sat together and looked at each other w/ openness and compassion and really listened...

Models of Reality

December 03

It was encouraging to read ideas from Arny's "Quantum Mind" reflected in Doris Lora's "A Dyadic' Model Of Reality (which appeared in the first volume of Shift Magazine, December 03,(of the Institute of Noetic Sciences on page 22). Scientist, astronaut, and I.O.N.'s visionary founder, Edgar Mitchell postulates that awareness and intention, ..are the roots or seeds of self-reflective consciousness.precursors of consciousness... and the beginnings of the universe."

Salt Lake City : Working with Mormon-Non-Mormon Tensions

October 03

We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work in Salt Lake, focusing on religious differences. It was a moving experience to process conflicts during our work in Salt Lake City (organized by. Randee Levine randee@igc.org and co sponsored by the University of Utah Communications Department).

There were two core processes. While listening to various sides deeply express their feelings and opinions, the group briefly explored the persecution of the early U.S. Mormons. Though painful, we have a glimpse into the possible feelings of the persecutor and the one being killed. Afterwards, deep feeling and personal stories emerged. We understood, that many religious conflicts may stagnate without carefully re-exploring the history of persecution.

The second core process emerged in connection with the civil rights of Lesbian and Gays. The history of the church emerged again after many opinions and deep feelings were expressed. One participant was able to express the imagination of the spirit of Hyram Smith, brother of the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith. Both men had been assassinated in the Carthage Jail.

Cathage Jail

The Carthage Jail where Joseph & Hyram Smith were assassinated in 1844

Transformed and deepened through the imagination (or experience) of death, the open mindedness of this spirit relieved many so that in spite of ongoing tension, small embers of hope appeared when the mystery of and freedom to love was mentioned. It was an honor to be present in SLC.

Worldwork with Unity Church At Crystal Mountain, Washington, USA

August 03

Our experience with "Unity" was most remarkable. After doing inner work on centering during group processes, and after opening statements about the conflict between "those-wanting-to-speak-about-issues", and "those-who-have-had-enough-tension", that courageous Unity group quickly dove into and processed several central topics: racial discrimination by the police, mainstream suffering from attack, and the pain of Gays due to religious intolerance from another denomination. Sharing the deepest feelings led to unforgettable common-ground experiences. How did all this occur in a day and a half? One of the folks said, "At Unity we believe a way will appear if we hang in there." Amy and Arny are thankful to Dr. Jai Tomlin for organizing this meeting, and to both Jai and Dr. Salome Schwarz for their assistance

Open Forum in Zurich Switzerland

July 03

The main newspapers in Zurich Switzerland, the NZZ and the Tages Anzeiger, reported that two friends of ours, Lukas Hohler (of Zurich) and Max Schuepbach (of Portland) facilitated an open forum in a large tent in Stadelhofen square. Store owners, Punks, Police, Students, people visiting the restaurants and living in the neighborhood took part, discussing everything from sitting around on the curb side to begging in the streets. Relating to one another in the city was the goal, successfully reached.-- See details at http://www.maxfacilitation.net/news_updated.html.

International Conference on Science and Consciousness

April 2003

Connections Between Psychology + Physics With Special Focus On Body Symptoms, was a very creative project for us. We enjoyed sharing our work, and gained a great deal by meeting other therapists, mathematicians, physicists and astronauts. We spoke and demonstrated ideas about the body, myths, wave equations, parallel worlds, superposition, and what the essence means in "healing". Click here for an unedited report of that Lecture."

North East Portland Body Symptom Clinic

January 17, 2003

This community clinic (no charge) began with the quote on the brochure from the author, Susan Griffin, "Any illness can be read as a metaphor of the soul. But it is not just one soul that lies in the balance. Illness of every kind holds up a mirror to society". We opened the clinic as a dreamland version of worldwork, in which the body could mirror the problems of societies. During the first community evening in Portland one person worked on his experience of paralysis and how the wisdom of his heart helped him recuperate in spite of medical viewpoints that he would never walk again. Then a physician worked in the center on the problem of chronic fatigue, showing how the artist in all of us is protected when dreams inhibit the everyday person from being normal. One woman found that a monster sitting on her stiff neck containing her own amazing power. Many of the hundred people present found community learning in the wisdom of the heart, fatigue from being normal, and power hidden in a sore neck!

Radio Interview with Michael and Justine Toms from New Dimensions Radio, on their Spirit of the Times

Dec 30, 2002

Broadcast internationally live on 5-7pm pacific coast time, at http://www.newdimensions.org/html/wisdom.html#live., replays Saturday and Sunday afterwards.(Internationally, tune in on C-band (big) dish in Central and North America. Tune in to GE1-12 for television and GE1-12, subcarrier 7.1 for radio.)

In this intense two hour long interview, Justine and Michael Toms explore some of the deep feelings and examples of deep democracy related to Arny's "THE DEEP DEMOCRACY OF OPEN FORUMS". (Michael Toms recently published, A TIME FOR CHOICES: DEEP DIALOGUES FOR DEEP DEMOCRACY, where he speaks with many alternative thinkers about 9/11 and war on "terrorism".) We were moved by Justine and Michael Toms' guided the interview enabling us to explain how visions of democracy can be translated into practice during war-threatening times. We unfolded ideas about how "leaders" should learn to model dealing with attacks, and how conflict creates the opportunity for everyone to express their inner life struggles, thereby relieving tense outer meetings and forums. (Please don't hesitate to contribute to new dimensions radio's work: info@newdimensions.org. )

Interview with Deb Leech of the "A Chautauqua" Talk Show on National Public Radio KOPN community radio", Columbus, Ohio.

Dec 19, 2002

Deb Leech was excited about process work's applications to individual therapy, and how we deal with what others call "resistance". Her questions covered Amy's book Metaskills, and Arny's recent DREAMMAKER'S APPRENTICE and THE DEEP DEMOCRACY OF OPEN FORUMS. Deb was fascinated by the connections between inner work and organizational and world change.

East Asian Forum

October 2002

At this open forum, we explored present and historical issues in the relationships between Korea, Japan and China. We had deep experiences while introducing a new type of open city forum, integrating linear town-meeting styles, with fantasy, role play and sentient movement. Reality issues were debated, and for a brief period in the midst of the forum, the dead from history had a place as well in an awesome, spontaneous, 7 person play. After the play, there was a change in mood, with insights such as "it takes strength to carry the past and interact with the present." Thanks to Hanna Chung for organizing the evening.

Frankfurt

May 24-25 2002

Unexpectedly during our moving Frankfurt worldwork training, modern issues of Israel and Germany, as well as the history between Jews and Germans going back into world war II arose. We also focused upon issues between "Women and Men". The general training atmosphere allowed us to go deeply into these historical problems. Thanks to the Frankfurter Ring for hosting us.

Worldwork in Greece

May 16-23 2002

The 330 people from 40 countries created, together with the worldwork staff from all over the world, one of the most incredible eight days we can ever remember. We focused upon a host of issues and worldwork skills. We are thankful to the Greek organizers and community that came together there, who created a wonderful pot for cooking world issues. We worked on problems around immigration in Greece, the relationship between Greece and the USA, Palestinian-Israeli and Muslim-Hindu conflicts, Balkan issues present and past, women's issues, homophobia, racism, and many other world topics. There were new visions of worldwork, including creativity and shamanism, inner and movement work. And a great talent show at the end!

India

May 4-5 2002

Worldwork in Mumbai around riot issues in that country was hosted by the most welcoming process work group of Mumbai. Thanks to that group, we had a rich experience learning about the problems of Gujarat and beginning to process issues between Muslim and Hindu parties.

Hospital work in Kobe

April 22-23 2002

It was an honor working with a most wonderful Hospital Staff in Kobe, Japan. We learned a lot about adapting organizational aspects of worldwork to that particular hospital community, about large group communication in Japan, and how the connections between stress and organizational expansion can be worked with. We did open forum brainstorming, had fun with body work in the center and left feeling that if we were ill, that hospital would be a place we would feel safe and well.

Annual Meeting of the American Group Psychotherapy Association

March 1 2002

The plenary, keynote address for the Annual Meeting of the American Group Psychotherapy Association was on worldwork and called: HOPE: How Large Group Process Transforms Individuals, Relationships and Communities. This talk was well received. A+A learned a lot about group psychotherapy and how it is helping to heal the effects of 9/11/01. Members of AGPA thanked A+A for past organizational consultation and were open to extending group psychotherapy work into the domain of worldwork applications. There was discussion about how organizations can help support one another.

The Concentration Camp

April 27-29 2001

Working in the Concentration Camp in Mauthausen, Austria, was surely one of the most difficult things which we have ever done. Amy felt horrified, agonized, detached, sad, and the great potential for healing. Arny discovered the resolution and freedom from subtle tensions he never had thought much about before. Being with that group of about 100 people from so many different nations and races, was a healing experience onto itself. Together, we spoke to the ghosts of those who had died in that camp, listened to their requests about completing their unlived lives. Some were able to connect with cosmic forces and understand whatever meaning there may have been behind the dreadful events of war. Most of us understood, that it痴 up to the living to protect the future against war by using awareness methods and processing conflicts before they become dramatic. It was awesome. And we are very thankful to everyone who enabled the visit and the process around that camp to occur and continue the next days in Vienna. Amazing things happened in that setting, and besides the grief, there was more love than can be imagine.
